fyi on amnioFrom: Wendi (anonymous@obgyn.net)Thu, 30 Dec 1999 21:55:53 -0600 (CST)
I've been part of this forum now for about a week, since I heard the news that I was a risk for a down syndrome baby due to low levels in my AFP test. The following is just for anyone's information if they have to have an amnio. Today I had the genetic counseling and the amnio. I have had a lot of anxiety up through today for many reasons, but one was the amnio test itself. Please note that this test does not hurt!! It feels like the drawing of blood from your arm but in your tummy instead. It helps to relax. I, at first, was breathing as if I was giving birth!! The doctor said I was going to hyperventilate and to breathe slow and focus. I then concentrated on my "golf shot" I felt the initially prick, a slight pulling feeling and then it was done!! I chose not to look at the ultrasound during the test. I feel so much better and now I am waiting for the results. (10-14 days) If anyone is planning on having this test..it really is not bad at all. No response to this message needed..
