EclampsiaFrom: Sony (anonymous@obgyn.net)Tue, 28 Dec 1999 09:14:18 -0600 (CST)
I have seen much information on pre-eclampsia, but haven't found much on eclampsia. After my first child was born I had an eclamptic seizure (my blood pressure was 200/140 during the delivery and I don't remember much of anything that day...most of what I know is from my mother-who was present during the delivery) about 12 hours postpartum. After complications with HELP syndrome, I am fully recovered. I do not have high blood pressure normally, I am a quite healthy runner with no long term medical problems. I am pregnant again (10 years later)and wondering about the risks of both eclampsia and pre-eclampsia. I was told by one OB that since the father of the baby is different than the first, my risks are greater than if I was pregnant with a baby from the same father because it is similar to a first pregnancy. Another OB told me that my chances are the same regardless of the sperm involved. Do you have any information that would be helpful for me? After what I went through I am apprehensive and want to be at least armed with as much information as possible.
