upper abdominal pain during deliveryFrom: AMD (anonymous@obgyn.net)Mon, 13 Dec 1999 15:56:30 -0600 (CST)
This question has been in the back of my mind since my son was born in June, so here goes.... I have had a history of gallstones and gallbladder attacks. I recall during my labor and delivery that I experienced a sharp stabbing pain under my ribs on the right side that made it hard for me to even breathe. Definitely reminiscent of gallbladder attacks from the past, but I was too absorbed in the other pain to make much of an issue of it. I have experienced similar, but much milder, pain on occasion while nursing. Is it possible for the hormones that cause uterine contractions to also cause a gallbladder attack or contractions? Isn't this same hormone released during breastfeeding? Thanks, A.
