ItchingFrom: caroline (anonymous@obgyn.net)Mon, 13 Dec 1999 07:57:25 -0600 (CST)
I am 32 weeks pregnant. About a week ago, I started experiencing allover itching (not unbearable, but very annoying - like wearing scratchy wool all over)- soles of feet, palms of hands, legs, back, belly, arms - pretty much everywhere except head and face. Also experienced some sensitivity / itching on my lips and my hard palate - similar to what I have experienced when I have eaten certain foods to which I have an allergy. No other pain or symptoms. My doctor sent me for a blood test for conjugated bile salts, for which I haven't gotten the results yet. Assuming it's not a liver problem, which I believe would show up in the blood tests - is this itching a symptom of something that could harm the baby? My doctor suggested taking Benadryl, but both my husband and I are reluctant for me to take any drugs. Also - although I haven't come into contact with anything to which I have an allergy, is it common for pregnant women to develop allergies or increased sensitivities during pregnancy that they did not have before pregnancy? Thanks! Caroline
