fetal head ventriclesFrom: Kathy (anonymous@obgyn.net)Mon, 29 Nov 1999 00:11:56 -0600 (CST)
At my first ultrasound at 17 weeks, the fetal head ventricles had a slightly large measurement of 11.6cm. My husband and I went to a hospital specializing is women's medicine and underwent chromosomoal testing, genetic testing, I was tested for infections that may have been passed to the fetus, and I had amnio as well. We left the hospital not knowing anymore than we did when we arived. The doctors' concerns were that the measurements are usually normal (10 cm)or an extreme (18cm), so they didn't know what to make of this slight enlargement. Hydrocephalus was mentioned as a likely problem, but we decided to continue the pregnancy. At 22 weeks I had another ultrasound done, and the ventricles had a normal measurement, but we still held our breath until the baby was born. July 2 we had our baby girl, and she is perfect. There are no problems that we are aware of. I hope by passing my experience along, I might be able to give another couple hope. Our baby is now a positive statistic that will hopefully teach us more about this type of "problem".
