Re: Fetal headFrom: anonymous@obgyn.netFri, 26 Nov 1999 15:09:43 -0600
Kathy & Rod, glad that OBGYN.net was helpful. Also, thanks for the extra degree, but I am NOT a Doctor. I am a certifed Sonographer by the American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers. P.S. Pregnancy & Birth on OBGYN.net is designed for public discussions such as this. Good luck with the pregnancy. Terry J. DuBose, M.S., RDMS Director, Diagnostic Medical Sonography Program CHRP, University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences Little Rock, Arkansas, USA 501-686-6510 http://www.io.com/~dubose/ <http://www.io.com/~dubose/> http://www.uams.edu/CHRP/dmshome.htm <http://www.uams.edu/CHRP/dmshome.htm> http://www.obgyn.net/us/panel/panel.htm <http://www.obgyn.net/us/panel/panel.htm> -----Original Message----- From: Rod and Kathy Hickson [SMTP:rkhickson@silk.net] Sent: Friday, November 26, 1999 2:41 PM To: Multiple recipients of list ULTRASOUND Subject: Fetal head At my first ultrasound at 17 weeks, the fetal head ventricles were measured at 11.6 cm. I was sent to BC Women's Hospital for further ultrasound, amnio, chromosomal testing, genetic testing, and testing for infections I may have passed to the fetus. My husband and I were told measurements are usually either normal (10 cm) or an extreme (18 cm) but the doctors did not know what to make of our fetus's slightly enlarged ventricles. Hydrocephalus was suggested, but my husband and I hoped for the best. At 23 weeks I had a third ultrasound which showed a "normal" measurement. My baby was born at 39 weeks, and is absolutely perfect. I guess our child is now a statistic, thankfully a positive one. I hope this positive information may prevent another parent from going through the Hell we went through. I have read some of Dr Dubose's articles on this subject and they gave me much hope. Thank you for that...it helped me get through my pregnancy sanely and let me know other people are in the same situation. That was of comfort.
