When should husband be tested?

I am going to be 40 in January and my husband is 43. We are trying to have our first child together (this will be the first child for both of us). We've been trying for less than a year but I have only just begun taking my basal temp and using OPKs. I understand that at my age it is recommended I have the usual infertility tests, but am wondering when my husband should be tested. My brother was diagnosed with vericosele (sic) at 43 and I'm wondering how prevalant this is with men in their 40s. Thanks. -Sue
