Sonogram update and more questions regarding *normal birth proceedures*

Hello All, Thanks to all who've answered my questions with facts and opinions regarding the pitocin given after delivery of the placenta and those regarding renal dilation. At my last sonogram on Friday, at 28 weeks, the baby had a full bladder and only the slightest dilation of the kidney pelvis, not enough to worry about, so things are looking better. :-) And its "still" a boy. Isn't that silly, how people ask us that? LOL. I could understand it more if it were to appear to be a girl, but a boy, especially when the sonographer was so very certain, seems to be silly. :-)

Anyway, on to my new questions. For the people that I've asked thus far on the pitocin issue, so many were not aware of it being standard practice and further not aware whether they had been given it or not! This apalls me and I'm now concerned if there will be other "routine" things going on that, during labor and birth I will either 1) not be told about prior to, or 2) be too preoccupied to notice or care at that time. Thus, I'd like to know, what else is a routine or common proceedure or practice during the "average" birthing experience?
