There is something called a Bishop's score, scoring dilatation, effacement, station and other factors. When dilated and effaced, the Bishop's score is favorable and by extension, your cervix is favorable... favorable to be a good induction candidate - a not too prolonged induction.

Earlier sonos are more accurate, routinely.
