Multi-Lobal PlacentaFrom: Susan (anonymous@obgyn.net)Fri, 19 Nov 1999 08:15:09 -0600 (CST)
What are some of the concerns/problems related to and how can one get a placenta with multiple lobes? I was recently told that I have a bi-lobal placenta. When I first conceived and found out I was pregnant it was initially thought I had a miscarriage, but 2 weeks later we found a 6 week embryo/fetus. I have a single fetus, one cord and 2 placentas connected at the cord. I have not been able to find any information about this and my medical dictionary in my office lists several different names for the condition, but no causes. Other names are: accessory lobe, bidiscoidal placenta, placental biloba, placental bipartita, cotyledonary placenta, placental dimidiata, placental duplex, succenturiate placenta, supernumerary placenta, placental tripartita (3 lobes), placental multiloba (more than 3 lobes). Could you please help me? or should I grill my doctor more on the details?
