Marshella,

I am not sure as to why it resolves itself by 6-8 weeks. I will be sure to ask the pediatric urologist at our next appt. The voiding study was performed in the hospital. I was not allowed to be with him. :( I know that a cathetar was threded (sp?) through his penis a a dye was injected. They were looking to see if the dye came back out or backed up. I wish I knew more. I was very out of it when all this was explained to me..sorry!

You are right about the valve problem. It could be opening but not fully allowing the fluid to back up into the renal pelvis. This can cause kidney damage if not treated.

I hope you find out more information. My doctors were very reluctant to give me information when asked. They said they didn't want to make it into a big deal! Ugh!!!!! I was so glad when we consulted the pediatric urologist during my pregnancy. he followed me with ultrasounds every 3 weeks and was able to reassure us when he felt things were going well. Have you thought about doing this now? If your little guy does have a problem it is important to have care start while in the hospital. My urologist was at the hospital the next mroning and we felt reassured that he was geting the best care. After all, he already "knew" the baby.

Good luck!

It was the renal pelvis that was retaining the fluid. >
