Identical or Fraternal?

Hi!

I would like to add something to the twin discussion. My daughter tells me that there is a third type of twinning that occurs in mice, but it is not known if it occurs in humans. It is called "polar body twinning". I'm doing this from memory, but if I remember correctly, when the meiotic process occurs, the discarded genetic material created is discarded in the "polar body". Apparently in some cases, this polar body develops into a functioning egg which can be fertilized along with the other egg. If this did occur in humans, babies resulting from this type of twinning would technically be from the same original egg, but fertilized by different sperm.
