Imipramine in preg

Imipramine is a pregnancy category C: A potential risk, usally because there is no data from human studies, and animal studies show adverse effects or no studies have been conducted. Drugs with a pregnancy category C rating may be used when potential benefits outweigh potential risks to the fetus. Tricyclic antidepressants cross the placenta and are excreted in breast milk. My drug book says contraindicated in pregnancy, but it is always a balance btw risk and benefit. Good Luck, Erin
