Failures in birth control, etc (sorry it is so long)From: Melissa (anonymous@obgyn.net)Thu, 4 Nov 1999 09:35:39 -0600 (CST)
I am new to this, so bear with me. I am a 28 yr old who had her tubes tied in 1/97, when my son was almost 3 months old. I have not "tested" the effectiveness until the past 5 weeks. The past 5 days I felt "pregnant", so on a whim got 2 different tests. I did one yesterday, one this morning...both postive. Normally, I have a 26 day cycle, and due to my boyfriend's work schedule, there were only 2 times in the past month where I COULD have gotten pregnant! One was on day 10, the other day 17. When I had the surgery, I asked specifically what the failure rate was...the doctor looked at me like I was a nutcase. My son was my 5th pregnancy, and only the 2nd to make it to term. I knew that I could not handle another second trimester miscarriage, and chose to not run the risk of it. EVERY one of my pregnancies has been from failed birth control...my 7.5 y/0 daughter is a Norplant baby, I had 2 pill babies, an IUD baby, and the 3 y/o is a Depo-Provera baby. I guess it is fitting that the tubal ligation would fail me too. Not that I would not want another child, but it defeated the purpose of spending that money almost 3 yrs ago! Is there anyone out there who can say they have been in my shoes? I am so confused and downright scared right now...boyfriend and I talked about the possiblility of a reversal after we got married (late next yr), but with his job he is out of contact until this weekend -- he does not even know yet. I was kind of hoping to have a doctor's opinion before then. I just moved here to this small town, and when I called the clinic to get and appt. this morning, I was told that I had to wait til my 9th week -- if this is a tubal pregnancy, is that not too long? Anyone have some words of wisdom for me? I sure could use them right about now.....
