Re: Question about AFP test?

Hi Christine,

I believe its taken between 16-22 weeks. I know its hard to wait! I had mine at around 18 weeks and the results only took a few days to get. Thankfully, they were fine, and I hope yours will be too! The accuracy of the test relies on accurate dating. It wouldn't be good to compare the test results of a test taken when the woman was 16 weeks LMP and actually was 22 weeks LMP, so hopefully you've had very regular periods or an early ultrasound to confirm that your dates are fairly accurate. Remember that just because the test shows up a lower level of protein than normal, it doesn't mean that your child has down's, if the test is "positive". It could be an error in dates, or other things and most likely a sonogram would be performed to see why it was low. So hang in there! Good luck, check back in here in a few weeks and tell us how your test went.
