Re: breast lump

Hi Holly,

I just thought I would share my story with you. Soon after I gave birth to my first baby I developed a breast lump. I could only feel it in a sitting position. My OB did send me for a Mammogram and US and everything looked fine. The lump disappeared by 12 weeks.

During my second pregnancy, I developed a lump in the same place at 5 months pregnant. My doctor thought it was benign again but sent me for an US to confirm this. They could see the lump but nothing looked suspicious. I was then sent to a surgeon who did a fine needle biopsy. This came back normal. We had scheduled to have the lump removed immediately after the delivery but by the time I got to that point the lump had disappeared.

My fourth pregnancy, I found a lump in the same place. I haven't consulted my OB yet but feel it is the same lump we have been dealing with for 7 years. I would definitely ask to have an US of the breast done and maybe even have a fine needle biopsy. This does not hurt (at least it didn't me). I had to sit up on the exam table with my right breast exposed. The doctor can give you a shot to numb the area but I figured why be stuck twice? Anyway, he squeezed the lump and then stuck a small needle into it and extracted fluid. He looked at the color of the fluid and did not feel I had anything to worry about..he was right!

I wish you luck in your pursuit to get answers. Please don't brush this aside. It is probably nothing but it is better to be checked out thoroughly now.

Cindy
