Hair Loss

A year or so ago I was diagnosed (by my previous ob/gyn, after insisting that he test my thyroid and hormones to see what was going on) with an estrogen deficiency. The only symptom (that I was aware of) was hair loss. When my new husband and I started planning our wedding, we knew we would be trying to conceive right after the wedding (we're both 38), so I stopped taking the daily hormone supplement (Estratab), and my hair loss reoccurred. I am now 12 weeks pregnant and have been on a pre-natal vitamin since July. My current ob/gyn insist that I could not be pregnant with an estrogen deficiency, refuses to run tests to see what's wrong, and has referred me to a dermatologist. I feel like, as with my first ob/gyn, he is ignoring my concerns. He keeps telling me to wait until my prenatal vitamins kick in, and my hair will be stronger. Does anyone have any idea what could be causing this hair loss? Should I insist that he run tests, or is it really true that I couldn't have an estrogen deficiency and be pregnant? What other causes should I look for?

Thanks to anyone who has advice or encouragement....
