No period following ERPC operation (D&C?) following incomplete miscarriage

We experienced a bad start to the pregnancy. Constant stomach pain and bleeding. Two scans later we were told that the baby had died (approx. 8 weeks) and that an emergency ERPC was required.

This happened on 21st June. It's now 16 weeks later I still havn't had any sign of a period and have experienced stomach pain (similar to period pain) on some occasions. A number of visits to our GP has resulted in a "wait and see" response. We have taken a couple of pregnancy tests which were negative.

This is obviously very distressing. It's impossible to feel that any type of physical "recovery" has begun never mind finished. We're both worried that some other damage has been done during the ERPC and undiagnosed. Emotionally it's desperately difficult to feel that we can progress.

Do you know of any literature or resource that could explain what is going on. Most (well every) things we have seen say 4-6 weeks and periods will return. The nearest explanation has been "over agressive D & C" but what does this mean?
