preterm laborFrom: carol (anonymous@obgyn.net)Sun, 3 Oct 1999 09:55:38 -0500 (CDT)
At 28 1/2 wks I had constant cramping and was sent to the hospital. The monitor showed that I was having contactions that went away without any medication after about 6 hours. Upon examination the dr said my cervix was shortened and that I was about 1 finger. An ultrasound was done which showed my cervix was about 20% effaced. About 24 hours after the contractions had stopped I was allowed to leave the hospital and was put on complete bed rest. I am wondering, does 1 finger mean that I had actually dialated 1 cm? Also, is being 20% effaced that big of a deal? I am now 32 1/2 wks and nothing has changed. I am now wondering how necessary this bed rest is. If I was doing more would it really matter? Is it possible that my cervix is naturally short, or would my dr had known this a long time ago? I have been going to her for a few years.
