Re: PROM @ 18.5 weeksFrom: Kathy (anonymous@obgyn.net)Sun, 26 Sep 1999 00:15:17 PDT
Hi! The bleeding is usually because of the increased blood supply to the cervix during pregnancy which is what makes it firm and helps hold the pregnancy in. Any irritiation to the cervix can cause some spotting. I am concerned when you say "comes out in large clots". How large are they? I don't consider a clot large until it is bigger than an egg. Is it more prevalent in PROM, yes. A tiny minute amount can get picked up by a little amniotic fluid and look much worse than it is. Since you say it is either pink or dark, old stuff, I would guess from this the bleeding is not active and therefore nothing serious at this point. But if the clots are larger than an egg, I would probably want to pursue that further. Hope this helps. Kathy You may reply to me at: <kat52gre@excite.com>
