Re: nausea in pregnancyFrom: Kathy (anonymous@obgyn.net)Sun, 26 Sep 1999 00:00:48 PDT
There are 2 schools of thought here and it seems you have met them both. The supplements your one daughters doctor recommends is the same ingredients that used to make up the med "Benedictin" that so many of us took years ago for hyperemesis. It was taken off the market about 15 yrs ago due to some question about the possibility of birth defects. I am under the impression that there was never any proof that it did cause defects but the FDA did not want to take any chances and cancelled it's approval and it no longer exists. In this country anyway. Some physicians I work with prescribe it (the individual ingredients that made up Benedictin) and some don't. I personally took it 20 yrs ago when I was pregnant because I could keep nothing down without it. I had no problems. My daughter-in-law is pregnant and does not wish to take the risk. It is a personal decision. How great is the risk? I'm sorry I could not phathom an idea. Sorry. Hope this helps. Kathy You may reply to me at: <kat52gre@excite.com>
