PROM @ 18.5 weeks

I just read your story about PROM. My wife, Ginger, had PROM at 18.5 weeks, without signs of infection or other reasons. We were considered a high risk pregnancy after we have lost our first son at 27 weeks, going into labour and birth within 2 hours. This loss happened in Bolivia. Now we are living in Quito, Ecuador, where the medical assistance is better. Still no warning signs where detected when the membanes ruptured. We were hospitalized immediately and put on total bedrest. We were put on antibiotics for 10 days. Infections were monitored and none has developed yet. So far, against all odds and the doctors opinion, we have made it almost 7 weeks and still going. Our amniotic fluid level came back up from almost zero to almost 10.

We left, for other reasons, the hospital Tuesday last week. The day we left to go home, Ginger had bloody show. Blood has been showing ever since. It comes and goes. Sometimes it is pinkish with some mucous, sometimes it is dark and old looking. It has not completely stopped. It sometimes comes out in big clots. Our doctor seems not too worried about it, since Ginger has no signs of contractions and the cervix seems to be closed and thick.

I wonder if you experienced blood. We do not have an explanation to where it comes from. We think that since the cushion of the amniotic fluid is strongly reduced the baby can harm the cervix or uterus area by kicking.

Do you have experienced pressure on the baby by the reduced amniotic fluid?

We would be very grateful for other women's experiences with PROM.

Thank you for your time.
