I need help - 2nd mc on the way - need to know why?

I went in to the dr. today to hear the heartbeat. I am 10 1/2 weeks. They couldn't hear it using the dopplar, so I asked them to give me sonogram. They did, although the sonographer was not there. The nurse admitted she wasn't very good at sonograms, but gave it a try anyway. Since I had a sonogram at 7 1/2 weeks and saw the heartbeat then, I knew I'd be able to see the heartbeat if it was there this time. Well, we could not. They tried and tried to get a good picture but we still could not see any cardiac activity. This exact thing happened to me during my last pregnancy. I thought I was 13 weeks - went to hear heartbeat, didn't, got sonogram, etc. That time the baby hadn't developed beyond 7 weeks. No bleeding the entire time so no warning whatsoever. This time has been the same. No bleeding - NOTHING. This time, the nurse said the baby HAD grown from the last sonogram at 7 weeks. But we could not see heartbeat. I am going again tomorrow to meet with the sonographer this time, but I have no hope. Please, can any doctor or anyone tell me why this may be happening? It has to be medical for it to happen exactly the same both times. I am devastated and numb. Please - if anyone can help me . . .
