Re: Becoming pregnant after a stilbirthFrom: JoAnn (anonymous@obgyn.net)Wed, 22 Sep 1999 12:04:57 -0500 (CDT)
Tina, First let me say how sorry I am that you've had to experience the loss of your child. Our son, Elliot, was also born still this past January. We went in for a routine exam and there was no heartbeat. After he was born my husband and I wanted to try again immediately. Upon the advise of my doctor, we did decide to wait until I had had two cycles (which turned out to be three months). During this time we went to a support group for pregnancy loss at our hospital which was very beneficial for us. I also joined the "Y" and began exercising everyday. (I found that I simply couldn't cry anymore, but still had a lot of emotion to deal with. Exercise provided me an opportunity to work these issues out of my body and mind.) We both can honestly say that we are glad we waited. While it was difficult to wait and the desire to say "to *&% with the doctors advise they can't even tell me why my baby died" was very strong (due to anger), the time spent served a very important purpose for us. While you are searching for reassurances, to be very honest, there are none. That's the cold hard reality of it all. And yes, it sucks! You are that statistic now, 1 in X, which will forever skew your perspective. I'm now pregnant again and due on January 1 (25 weeks and counting!). After an u/s at 19 weeks, my doctor stated it very well "I hate to tell you this, but everything looks good. I know you've heard this before and things didn't turn out too well." Feel free to e-mail me at my address above if you'd like to talk more. Again, I'm very sorry for your loss. JoAnn
