So, can postpartum emotional >difficulties start with an unexpectedly tough labour? > >Thank you for your help. i believe one of the doctors or mary can better address wether you may need outside help to get thru what you are describing. but i would like to tell you that post-partum depression varies from woman to woman in duration, strength and causes. if you really have unresolved feelings about your labor and birth it would indeed help to be able to talk with someone who has lots of birth experience, ie a doula, midwife, childbirth asst., even a friend who might be a nurse who has attended several births. i know that talking with my midwife after my son's birth by c-sec. helped me to "de-brief" tremendously. perhaps you are not getting your feelings about the birth validated in some way. and do not beat yourself up about how things went. soemitmes i have seen women beat themselves up because their births were not the "perfect" births they had heard about. there is rarely a perfect birth. hope this helps and if you would like to email me privately go ahead.
