Postpartum Depression/AnxietyFrom: anonymous@obgyn.netMon, 20 Sep 1999 13:32:19 -0500 (CDT)
How can a woman who has feelings of anxiety, even four months after the birth feel better? When does a woman feel back to normal (i.e. 'herself') after giving birth? Can it take several months? Are hormonal fluctuations always to blame? Or is it due to the characteristics of the baby (e.g. a demanding baby)? In my case, I had a really tough labour. I gave birth 34 hours after entering the hospital. My water broke at home and when I got to the hospital the progress was very slow and I had to be induced with oxytocin when I was in the hospital. Also my pushing stage lasted 3 hours (maybe due to the epidural) and I felt horrible and oblivious to my surroundings for most of it. So, can postpartum emotional difficulties start with an unexpectedly tough labour? Thank you for your help.
