I guess his theory is that since the plane will fly so high (around 30,000-40,000 feet) you would theoretically be exposed to more solar radiation that would normally be filtered by the intervening layers of air. Since you are going to be inside the plane's fuselage, and not riding on the wing in the open, I think you are pretty safe with 6 inches of aluminum, insulation and other materials between you and the sun.
