Previa- Prenatl Steroid UseFrom: P (anonymous@obgyn.net)Wed, 15 Sep 1999 21:59:45 -0500 (CDT)
I have a marginal placenta previa, have had constant bleeding from 26-current 32 weeks. With the chance of premature delivery (in fact schedule c-section for week 38), I want to have the steroid treatments for lung maturation. My Dr told me I was almost past the 34 week mark where these become ineffective. I do not agree, and see that many others are given this treatment at any time of premature labor. Is there a reason I should think it's ok not to be proactive and have this treatment, since the risks are supposedly small or nil, and possible benefits so great? It seems slightly non-chalant to ignore helpful, possibly life saving treatments. Maybe I should switch to a Dr with a more aggressive, proactive approach? Please help!
