Gestational Trophoblastic DiseaseFrom: Amanda (anonymous@obgyn.net)Wed, 15 Sep 1999 16:12:32 -0500 (CDT)
In mid July I was 10 weeks along in my pregnancy and began lightly spotting. I went to my doctor and found out I was beginning to miscarry, he scheduled a D&C for the next day. At my follow up visit he told me the pathologist found a tumor along with the fetus. The doctor started taking my HCG count once a week. My first reading 2 weeks after the D&C was 181 my second (a week later) was 27, my third was 11 and my most recent one was 0. He told me it was a condition called Gestational Trophoblastic Disease. After doing hours of research on this disease, I am still confused. Why am I having to wait a year until my husband and I are able to try again? Is it because the tumor is more likely to come back during the first year following the D&C? Also, after a year of 0 readings, are we to assume this disease just goes away or is it just lying dormant waiting for another pregnancy to attack? Please inform me better about this disease I now have. Thank you for your time, Amanda
