Progesterone Suppositories and MiscarriageFrom: M. (anonymous@obgyn.net)Tue, 14 Sep 1999 15:39:19 -0500 (CDT)
With my first pregnancy my doctor prescribed Progesterone Suppositories because of blood work done before I got pregnant that said the progesterone was low. I never questioned it and had a fine boy that is now two. Recently, I unexpectantly found out that I was pregnant and went to the doctor after 10 to 11 days of a small amount of brown discharge. I had expected to find that my period would start but was excited to find out that I was pregnant. However the doctor once again put me on Progesterone Supp. 25MG twice a day. This time no blood work was run for Progesterone levels. Just an HCG blood test after I was already taking the Suppositories. THey came back fine. I have read all of the messages on Progesterone listed and found some relief but couldn't find any with women who had been spotting before starting the Progesterone. I read somewhere that once female hormones were given routinely for early bleeding but are now not given because of the potential harm to the fetus if the pregnancy continues. Now I am so worried that I may have a baby with some sort of chromosomal or genetic abnormality by stopping a miscarriage that should have happened. Does anyone have any thoughts on this? Greatly Appreciated. M. Cloud
