Early indication of risk of Trisomy 21 via nucal scan? From: Lucy (anonymous@obgyn.net)Sat, 11 Sep 1999 13:46:29 -0500 (CDT)
A 36 y/o friend here in UK (who was pregnant after IVF and therefore was reluctant to face the risk of loss of baby after amnio) had a nucal scan at 10 weeks (I think) to indicate likelihood of Down's. She was well informed about the low reliability of the test but came back with a risk figure of 1 in 750 and therefore decided to do without the amnio. I'm 38 and am trying for my first, having had a myomectomy last September. My friend points out that early booking for nucal scan is essential in UK because not many people do it, so I'm trying to educate myself in advance in case I want to call it in. My search of your database came up with no matches for "nucal". What is known about this (admittedly low reliability) early test?
