Dropping progesterone levelsFrom: Tracy (anonymous@obgyn.net)Tue, 7 Sep 1999 17:11:07 -0500 (CDT)
I am on my third pregnancy this year. I had 2 early miscarriages due to luteal phase defect due to low progesterone. This was verified by 2 endo. biopsies. I have been on progesterone suppositories since the luteal phase of this pregnancy. I take 100mg. at bedtime, and 100mg. in the A.M. What concerns me is over the last 3 weeks my blood progesterone level has been dropping. At 5 wks.-32.1 6wks.-29.9 7wks.-24. I'm afraid at this rate by next week I will be in the teens and endangering the fetus. At 6 wks. we did see the embryo which measured .45cm, and a good heartbeat over 100 B.P.M. But we also saw a heartbeat and everything looked normal at 6 wks. with my first miscarriage. Genetic testing was done and the miscarriage was not due to any genetic defect,(a karotypically normal male) so I assume it was low progesterone. I also have had 2 healthy children before this problem with the miscarriages. My question with this pregnancy is, if I am having dropping progesterone values while on 200 mg. natural progesterone daily, should I: a) increase the progesterone dosage b) try crinone gel c)progesterone in oil injections d)are there any other options??? My OB is very wishy washy and said she will do whatever I want to. At this point I wish I had more direct medical advice or research to guide me before it is too late for this pregnancy, too! Tracy
