Re: Blood pressure was high at my 30 week pg appt and worriedFrom: Sharon (anonymous@obgyn.net)Tue, 7 Sep 1999 15:26:57 -0500 (CDT)
I am 36 years old and in week 21 of my first time pregnancy. I am having high blood pressure readings and head-aches. I was at first writing my head-aches off for a bad cold and sinus problems, but now that sinuses are almost clear I'm still having slight head-aches and high blood pressure readings. My OBGYN sent me to a high risk specialist in fear it might be early on set of preclampsia. I do not show protien in my urine or any signs of swelling. I do have a family history of hypertension. The specialist has put me on a maintenance dosage, 200mmg twice a day of a medicine called labetalol and a baby aspirin. I'm taking the medication as pescribed. My blood pressure is still reading slightly high. It averages readings at 130/95 and sometimes higher when it is close to time for my second dosage. This deduction after only 5 days of taking the medication. Eventhough I was told by the specialist that this medication will not interfear with the fetus, should I be concerned? Also isn't it possible I have pregnancy hypertention and if so would taking medication have been the same remedy? Are There any other things I need to look out for. Ultrasounds and the amnio have sustained that the baby is in good condition.
