Dear Professional' I am a qualified sonographer [australian quals.], currently working in the arab emirates. The obs. workload is quite high and there is a great demand to determine the gender of the fetus....in fact the main aim of the exam from many patient's perspective is solely gender determination. Not for the purpose of medical diagnosis. Boy babies are desired and if you are one of a number of wives, it is important to have a boy baby. The cultural demands do not have an ethical basis and I am currently courting discussion amongst the professionals in order to try and formulate a policy on gender determination and disclosure. What are the decisive critera to consider in this setting?....it would be interesting to receive your perspective. MANY THANKS
