Re: Vasectemy reversalFrom: anonymous@obgyn.netWed, 1 Sep 1999 18:29:52 EDT
In response to your recent inquiry regarding vas.reversal. My husband and I also had 2 children 1 girl and 1 boy and thought we were done, but later felt that we would enjoy another or maybe a couple more kiddos. Once my husband made the decision to have a reversal I called all the major university hospitals and found out who was doing vas. reversals and asked them to send inofrmation. I also cruised the web and found some other physicians doing reversal surgeries through their web page. I asked all of them to send info with type of surgery they perform, cost and MOST importantly their PREGNANCY success rate. We knew we would have to travel some where out of Montana and the travel expense would be about the same wherever we went. We chose Dr. Silber in St. Louis, MO #1-314-576-1400, I think he his fax # is 1-314-434-1500 or viceversa. He was the most expensive, but he also had the best success rate for pregnancies. He also hospitalizes after surgery. We had a friend who went through a reversal surgery and having to leave the clinic and go to a motel overnight with tubes in his scrotum was difficult. Our friend recommended the hospital stay. Dr. Silber also makes sure there is sperm present where he reconnects the vas deferens. Some physicians don't. We were very pleased with Dr. Silber, the care we received from his staff and the hospital. My husband has had his sperm checked at 3 mos and 6 mos post reversal and it has been normal both times. It has been 9 months post surgery and I am a little disappointed that I am not PG yet, but I am older now (35) not as fertile, and we have been unable to be together for a few cycles in the last month. I am still very confident that we'll be parents again. If you have any other questions feel free to contact me. God Bless You, Audrey Mendenhall PS One other thing we were surprised at the extent of the surgery. My husband played golf the afternoon after his vasectomy (used a golf cart), but there was very little movement on his part for quite sometime following the reversal surgery. It is a much bigger procedure.
