Re: 1 vein and 1 arteryFrom: Marshella (anonymous@obgyn.net)Wed, 25 Aug 1999 17:25:10 -0500 (CDT)
Hi Sheila, I'm sorry to hear of your grandchild's difficulties so early in life. Pulmonary hypertension is a form of high blood pressure, but I believe it only refers to the pressure of the blood that is going directly between the lungs and the heart. I'm not real sure on that. The single artery and vein, this has been discussed and excellent link given to a resourceful page in July's board. Go back to the main page here and click on the July messages and look through them for the topic/subject of "SUA" which is Single Umbilical Artery (usually there are two arteries and one vein in the umbilicus, but this is not all that rare). I would tend to think that there were probably some afterbirth/placenta issues other than the SUA to result in the very very low birthweight. Good luck and let us know in a short while houw your grandchild is doing!
