2 questions about low fetal heartrateFrom: Nicole (anonymous@obgyn.net)Sat, 21 Aug 1999 14:21:14 -0500 (CDT)
I am about 8wk pg (since lmp) and two US showed the fetus to be quite small (less than 1mm I think) for term as well as having a low fetal heartrate (60 bmp first US and 75 bmp 9 days later). My HCG levels were high (30K I think) but did not change much in 2 days (should have doubled I'm told). Everyone seems surprised I am still carrying this fetus. I've had no bleeding at any point. Should I expect this pg to terminate? Both my doc and the radiologist told me they have only seen a fetal heartrate this low when fetal demise was underway--but not to lose hope. Has anyone out there observed such ominous signals NOT end in a mc? I would welcome hearing any response--even if it is only to buck up and face the worst. Have been reading about NK cells in the uterus on another list (about immunological issues) as a possible cause for small for term, low fetal heartrate problems. What are NK cells? Is this a controversial assessment? Thanks for any help you can give, Nicole D.
