[pregnancy] uterine inversionFrom: Lisa (anonymous@obgyn.net)Thu, 19 Aug 1999 11:25:14 -0700
When the placenta does not have time to fully detached from the uterus and someone is pulling on the umbilical cord..........that is a definite sign to me personally that there are going to be consequences. We practice a hands off approach in a birth setting. We wait for signs of the placena detaching on its own. These include a "separating gush" of blood out of the vagina and lengthening of the cord out of the vagina. I have even had women go sit on the toilet after delivery so that they could empty their bladders if we are waiting a little too long for the placenta to arrive. 9 times out of 10 immediately after they urinate, the placenta delivers while they are still on the toilet. Sometimes the bladder does not allow the uterus to contract down and impedes the delivery of the placenta. Just my personal experiences,
