Ovulation may resume as early as 4 - 6 weeks after delivery. You CAN ovulate before getting a period. You can ovulate and get pregnant while breastfeeding.

As far as getting pregnant right away, there are risks to the unborn baby -- your body has not had time to recover from the first birth and may not be able to adequately nourish a new baby; the chance of low birth weight and preterm delivery are higher if you are pregnant again within a year of delivering.
