There are reported cases of devious lawyers (and patients) who edit ultrasound videos to show problems (or leave out normal findings) in order to bolster their case. This is a classic case of a few bad individuals ruining it for the majority of decent people. In our area, where there are as many or more malpractice advertisements than anywhere in the country, very few doctors or sonographers video ultrasounds. Sadly, it's just not worth it. I also realize the value of an ultrasound video to parents and their family, but, like most others in our area, it is not worth risking millions of dollars in malpractice losses. Ob/Gyn doctors are sued regularly, with awards reaching 20 million dollars or more. The statute of limitations in Florida is an unbelievalbe 21 years. Believe me, when every patient you see and treat has the potential to destroy your career and your kid's college fund, you look at life a little differently. Most doctors, thankfully, ignore the implications of thousands of malpratice lawyers circling around, and continue to provide care to their patients to the best of their abilities. This is, after all, a wonderful profession. Some, sadly, order many unnecessary tests in order to protect themselves against lawsuits. In general, however, as litigation increases we will see more limitations, such as prohibiting videos of ultrasounds and even deliveries. Thanks,
