Re: Videotaping ultrasound questions....From: anonymous@obgyn.netMon, 9 Aug 1999 16:52:49 EDT
I do ultrasound in Montana and we routinely video tape OB u/s for patients and usually have the room full of family and friends. I know that I have been told that it is very risky legally for my clinic to be doing video tapes of the u/s exam. If something were missed during the u/s exam and it was on the video tape, it would be a law suit. we have decided at our clinic that we feel confident in our ability to adequately visualize all the necessary anatomic parts required for an OB u/s and would not keep a patient from having this once in a life time keepsake. As far as not allowing your husband in the room. I think that is ludicrous. I would try to have my u/s exam at another institution. Ask your doctor to refer you to another place, or make an exception to these policies. (Take a trip to Montana, We'll do it for you!!!!) It's your choice. Good Luck, Audrey Mendenhall, ARDMS Certified Sonographer Make sure the place who does your ultrasound employs American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers (ARDMS) Maybe they don't video tape because they aren't confident in their abilities.
