Does this also happen when she just lays down and does not sleep? If so, how long after lying down does this happen? Does she wake up coughing? What type of pain is it, is it sharp or dull aches? Does it go away immediaely when she wakes up or does she have to sit up, walk around, or what does she do? And how long does it take for the pain to go away again? Is she nursing her baby?

This is interesting. Is it only when she wakes up? If so, does it last while the pain lasts? Does it happen during the day?

I'm sure I recall seeing information on proceedures used during c-section, but don't recall where. Try a search for that and see what you come up with. Good luck, I hope she gets some relief soon.
