Re: HELP Low amniotic fluid.. 31 weeks?From: Rachael (anonymous@obgyn.net)Mon, 2 Aug 1999 14:44:41 -0500 (CDT)
I'm not a doctor, but was diagnosed with the same thing, borderline low amniotic fluid, at 35 weeks. I was put on bedrest for 2 weeks, with twice weekly u/s and non-stress tests, to keep track of the baby, and was induced at 37 weeks, birthing a 6 pound 8 ounce baby girl who's 9 1/2 months old and crawling at my feet. My low fluid was due to pregnancy induced hypertension. My doctor explained to me many reasons why this could happen, but of course it was all speculation until the baby was born, and he realized that the placenta looked good and the low fluid must have been a result of the high blood pressure (having a similar effect on the baby as clogged arteries in an adult). I know it's hard not to worry, believe me I worried and made my BP even worse! But try to relax, follow your doctor's advise, take your stress tests, pay attention to your baby, and remember that every day he's inside you is a victory. Your doctor will (should) probably evaluate the baby often, and when the time comes that he would do better on the outside than in you, you'll get your little bundle!!! I hope a doctor will write more about why this could be happening. My thoughts will be with you, hang in there and try to relax! Resting on your left side maximises blood flow to your baby, so get someting cool to drink and find a comfy couch!!!
