erb's palsy protocols

I too, would like to pose a question about Erb's. (I am going to assume that the unfortunate interchange posted in the archives does not mean this topic is unwelcome.)

What is the current medical opinion about how brachial plexus injuries are caused? What can be done by doctors/ midwives to prevent these injuries? What is taught to medical professionals about prevention? Has the incidence of BPI's gone up as people try harder to prevent C-sections?

How would I find a provider who is experienced in preventing this injury- since I am aware that there is a greater risk now for my subsequent children. Is a a c-section generally indicated for future pregnancies? Could I "demand" one?

I have found research on this issue to be contradictory, and unfortunately I have only gotten vague answers from my own providers. I hope this forum will provide me with answers about what is considered standard knowledge without anyone feeling personally involved. I'd really appreciate ANY responses. Thanks! Nissa
