It must take a saint...From: AMD (anonymous@obgyn.net)Tue, 27 Jul 1999 17:44:36 -0500 (CDT)
I always realized that OB's must live a fairly choatic life, but it wasn't until the night my son was born 6 weeks ago that I realized their spouses must put up with a lot of inconvenience as well. My doc and his wife were at the home of friends when I went to the hospital. They were still there when it was time for doc to come to the hospital and they arranged for the friends to take his wife home. This was a great arrangement, except that doc took the housekeys with him (they were attached to the car keys). So he's getting ready to give me my cervical block when the phone in the room rings. My husband holds the phone to the doctor's ear (doc is already sterile) while the doctor's wife informs him that she is locked out of the house. The friends bring her to the hospital so she can wait until the doctor is ready to go and ride home with him. So the poor woman had to wait 2 hours at the hospital while my OB delivers my baby and sews me up. I have never met my doctor's wife, but I bet he got an earful in the car on the way home!!! He's been delivering babies for 30 years, so I bet this isn't the first time something like this has happened! I don't know that I could handle being married to someone who delivers babies for a living, but I have a lot of admiration for those who put up with the chaos and disruptions for their spouse's profession! Just thought some of you might get a laugh from this little mishap! Andrea
