Maternal age and B-hcGFrom: Annie (anonymous@obgyn.net)Sun, 25 Jul 1999 19:14:03 -0500 (CDT)
I'm 36 yrs. old and pregnant for the 2nd time. My first pregnancy was last year and it resulted in a missed abortion at 9 weeks. I'm now 6 weeks pregnant and had a B-hcg done on 7/22 which showed a value of 14,274. It was repeated 48 hrs later and the value went to 26,479. I'm worried that since it didn't double, things may not be progressing as normal. I'm not feeling any pregnancy symptoms. I had breast tenderness in the beginning but it only lasted 2 weeks and went away. I'm very worried that this pregnancy may not turn out okay especially with my advancing age. Any explanation will be very much appreciated.
