Re: blighted ovum, missed abortion, brown dischargeFrom: anonymous@obgyn.netThu, 22 Jul 1999 20:26:57 -0500 (CDT)
Tami, I think the rule of thumb is that your hCG levels should be going up by 66% every 48 hours. I think that indicates a pretty valid pregnancy. So, if they did a hCG test last week(say 7/16), and your levels were (this is an arbitrary number) 1000. On the 18th they should be at least 1660, on the 20th they would be around 2755, and on the 22nd they would be around 4575 (to figure this, multiply the hCG level you got on the 16th by 1.66 and get a result. Your hCG level would have been this on the 20th. Use this new number and multiply again by 1.66 and get another result, this should be hour hCG level for the 22nd. IF your new hCG test was today, the levels should be AT LEAST this number. I hope the Drs will correct me if I've gone off kilter. If they are using a doppler, I don't think that it's common to hear the heartbeat before around 9 weeks. But with an US, I thought it was around 6-7 weeks when you could see the heartbeat. Anyone know different? I had my US done around 7 weeks and we saw the heartbeat (and it was the TINIEST flash that had to be pointed out). And these dates are from LMP, not from conception. I have my fingers crossed for you Tami that your numbers add up correctly and that another US shows you the heartbeat. The relief you'll feel will be overwhelming! Good Luck, Carolyn
