Re: blighted ovum, missed abortion, brown dischargeFrom: anonymous@obgyn.netThu, 22 Jul 1999 10:41:52 -0500 (CDT)
While what Karen says is true, miscarriages CAN happen with brown discharge. I miscarried a year ago and never had anything more than brown discharge (although, it was accompanied by a dull lower backache) until I miscarried (an US at 10 weeks showed an empty sac, I miscarried the next day). THat isn't to say that this is what is happening to you. MY advice would be to call your Dr ASAP and have him/her perform an US. TYPICALLY , they can see the heartbeat with an US at around 6 weeks and once it is seen, your risk of miscarriage decreases. As for the D&Cs...they CAN scar the uterus. While I did choose a D&C with my miscarriage(I was given the option), I think that I would probably wait it out and see what would happen, IF I were to miscarry again. On the same note, with my last pregnancy (I got pregnant 3 months after my miscarriage) I had bright red spotting at 11 weeks and went on to deliver a healthy baby 2 days post term. I think this is why one should be careful with generalizations. IF you were to miscarry, I would start looking into reasons why. 3 miscarriages should be ample reason. Make sure that they check all of you hormone levels, they do an analysis on the baby, every bit of info that they can gather will help to pinpoint the reasons why this is happening. Again, I'm not saying that you ARE miscarrying, just saying that it IS possible. To set your mind at ease, CALL YOUR DR! Carolyn
