Re: 30 weeks gestation - you can do it!From: Marshella (anonymous@obgyn.net)Tue, 20 Jul 1999 23:28:46 -0500 (CDT)
GT, Its not that hard to maintain your bedrest with the 5 yr old. 5's are pretty independant by that age. But you could use some help from your husband and a little advance planning! For instance, have your husband in the morning or the night before make simple lunches for you and your son, and of course snacks. Bag lunches that don't need to be heated up. Sandwiches. Or even get those Lunchables. Lay out snacks and bottled water on your coffee table or TV tray so you can stay on the sofa, and stock up on movie rentals of Barney and such! Can your 5 yr old get his own drinks? If he can't pour reliably yet into a cup, get some bottled or boxed juice drinks and stock the fridge so he can get them himself. Dry cereal for breakfast is just fine, but better if you can put some milk ahead of time into a sports bottle. Pop Tarts are good too. He can help himself to a bananana or orange or apple. Get some new coloring books, play-doh, and maybe a computer game to keep his interest. If your neighborhood is relatively safe and you have a fenced in yard, he should be able to occupy himself outside for a short while with you just checking on him periodically. Here in MD, a child of 6 years old or up can play one story away or in secured outside play area alone or with similar aged friends in licensed child care if checked on at least every 15 minutes. (I'm a child care provider). Good luck!
-- Marshella (edd #1 2/10/00)(P.S. My dear husband told me tonight he didn't think he'd be able to cope if I had to be on bedrest for the last trimester! LOL, he's having difficulty right now dealing with my Morning Sickness and exhaustion. I don't blame him! I'm up now because I napped earlier on my sofa this evening and aparently was moaning in my sleep and he was so worried about it!)
