Ann Vasa Previa is a very rare and not hereditary condition. It is an abnormality of placentation where the umbilical cord vessels begin to separate in the membranes well before the cord inserts into the placenta. This leads to very vulnerable vessels which can rupture when the membranes rupture. It is a catastrophic condition that often catches the MD and labor and delivery staff off guard as it is very rare. Hope this helps and Good Luck.
